Environmental Social Governance (ESG)

Responsible behaviour, sustainable development and long-term thinking are solidly anchored at Ocono and shape our understanding of sustainable business practice. In the area of Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG), we provide insights into the measures, examples and goals through which Ocono puts environmental, social and corporate responsibility into practice and continuously develops them into the future.

Derivation of the ESG Strategy

We developed our comprehensive ESG strategy in 2024 in collaboration with our specialist consulting and implementation partner, Atlas Metrics. Following initial internal workshops, we carried out a detailed two-way materiality analysis. Through a survey, we gathered the views of all relevant stakeholders (such as customers, suppliers, financiers and our employees) on our company and its impact on the environment, social issues and corporate governance. We then compared these results with our own assessments of the respective topics using a weighted system and, on this basis, compiled a catalogue of relevant ESG aspects.

Environmental Responsibility

At Ocono, the Environmental section of ESG covers the environmental aspects that are taken into account in the company’s operations. These include, in particular, the responsible use of natural resources, climate protection measures, the reduction of CO₂ emissions, and the promotion of environmentally friendly technologies and sustainable practices.

Social Responsibility

At Ocono, the Social aspect of ESG covers the social considerations that are taken into account in our business operations. These include, in particular, fair working conditions, the protection of human rights, the promotion of diversity and inclusion, and community engagement.

Corporate Responsibility

At Ocono, the Governance component of ESG covers the principles and structures of responsible corporate governance. These include, in particular, transparency, ethical business practices, management accountability, and reliable, quality-focused oversight. On this basis, Ocono promotes clear processes, committed standards and a corporate culture in which responsible and accountable practices are a key priority. This creates a stable foundation for trust, reliability and sustainable development.

Beyond Theory

Annual reporting on sustainability is not enough for us to take active measures. We incorporate relevant key performance indicators into the monthly internal reporting of our operating companies in order to continuously improve our contributions to more efficient production and the reduction of CO2 emissions. For us, economic and environmental progress go hand in hand. For example, every reduction in production waste lowers both production costs and emissions and waste. We ensure the implementation of our ESG strategy not only through a corporate mission statement, codes of conduct and guidelines.

We actively monitor our performance against predefined benchmarks across the relevant metrics. In addition, we have linked the variable remuneration of management and the remuneration components for production staff at our manufacturing sites to criteria that we consider particularly significant for achieving our ambitious goals within the framework of our ESG strategy.

Environmental Responsibility

(Examples)

At Ocono, we rely on renewable energy sources such as photovoltaics, which enables us to generate a large part of the energy used in production ourselves. Furthermore, energy efficiency plays a major role in our production and heating facilities, as well as in our cooling systems. We are pushing for a complete transition to energy-efficient solutions. To this end, we raise awareness among our employees regarding environmental sustainability in order to bring about long-term change in society. A large proportion of our scrap and waste is already recycled, and through our research and development department we are consistently increasing this proportion. By using high-quality materials, we can also ensure the sustainable use of resources through the longevity of our products.

Social Responsibility

(Examples)

At Ocono, we ensure safe, healthy and fair working conditions in accordance with all health and safety standards. We value and promote diversity and inclusion, which creates an inclusive working environment characterised by creativity, innovation and a wide range of skills and perspectives. Furthermore, we invest in social projects, educational initiatives and charitable organisations to actively contribute to the promotion of social justice. We implement preventive measures to avoid accidents in the workplace, provide appropriate healthcare benefits and support the well-being of every employee.

Corporate Responsibility

(Examples)

At Ocono, we are committed to promoting innovation and research in the field of sustainable technologies, processes and products. At the same time, we take economic impacts into account and aim for stability through financial planning and strategic investment. Throughout our supply chain and procurement processes, we carry out regular reviews and optimisations to ensure consistent standards among our partners. We strive to go beyond legal requirements and implement best practices to have a positive impact on the environment and society.
