No More Motorsports

August 28th, 2007

Oconomowoc Motorsports is no more… They’ve closed their doors. So if you’re looking for an ATV or scooter, you’ll need to go elsewhere. I was surprised to see them close, since it seemed as though I was seeing more and more scooters on the road of Oconomowoc lately, due to high gas prices I had assumed. I guess I was wrong. (But I’m still in the market for a used scooter!)

ALDI is Coming

August 10th, 2007

An ALDI Food Store is coming to Oconomowoc. At least that’s what the sign behind the Kwik-Trip tells us.

What is ALDI? Here’s what they have to say:

Aldi is an international retailer specializing in a limited assortment of private label, high-quality products at the lowest possible prices. Our unique way of operating makes it almost impossible for competitors to match our combination of price and quality. This means ALDI can offer Incredible Value Every Day.

While we enjoy shopping at Pick ‘n Save, and the occasional trip to Piggly Wiggly, it will be nice to see some competition in the local grocery scene.

(Note: It looks like ALDI will be opening in December 2007.)

New Restaurants

June 29th, 2007

As Pabst Farms grows, we’ll start to see some new dining experiences arise in Oconomowoc. Two in the planning stages are a Chili’s Grill & Bar and a Unique Pizza and Subs.

Personally, I’d love to see a Jimmy Johns, and a Qdoba Mexican Grill. (Yes, I know there’s a Qdoba in Delafield, but sometimes I really need a burrito fast, and don’t feel like driving that far…)

A Bridge Too Short

June 12th, 2007

It seems those knuckleheads who rebuilt the Oakwood Avenue bridge made a little error in measuring things, and now the bridge is too low.

The staff of ocono.com has no problem getting our canoe under the bridge, but the old weed cutting boat can’t quite fit.

Maybe they can just put more weight on the boat to sink it lower in the water so it will fit…?

Oconomowoc is Busy Town

June 8th, 2007

Well it’s June in Oconomowoc, and that can mean only one thing: It’s getting busy!

Activities for June 9th, 2007? The Yellow Brick Road 5K Run/Walk, the Fun Parade, and the June Street Dance. (If you’re the type who likes to stay indoors, there’s always the Midwest Gaming Classic, which is the 9th and 10th.)

And can you believe we’re just a few weeks away from the Badgerland Water Ski Show, Moonlit Movies in the Park, and the Independence Day Parade?

Midwest Gaming Classic 2007

May 29th, 2007

Like videogames? If you do, you do not want to miss the Midwest Gaming Classic taking place at Olympia on June 9th & 10th, 2007.

You should find all you need to know at midwestgamingclassic.com, but just in case you don’t you can check out the Wikipedia page for more info. (And they’ve even got a Myspace page.)

Whelan’s Coffee and Ice Cream

May 21st, 2007

Whelan’s Coffee and Ice Cream is now open. It’s a comfortable little neighborhood coffee shop. The owner is friendly, the couch is comfy, there’s magazines, a newspaper, a variety of games, cookies, and free wi-fi.

Whelan's Coffee and Ice Cream

Oh, there’s also coffee and ice cream, if you like those sorts of things. :)

Spring Gallery Night 2007

May 3rd, 2007

It is May already? Then it must be time for another Gallery Night! It’s Friday, May 4th at 5PM.

From the Oconomowoc Chamber of Commerce website:

Make it a social gathering and bring your family and friends. Stroll along downtown sidewalks and enjoy music, shopping, artists in shoppes showing their work, Horse-drawn carriage rides, tasty food and beverages, free drawings, great prices, non-professional Art Show, and visit non-profit organizations at Village Green. Great evening to get out of the house!

And since the bridge is open, we won’t have to go the “long way around” to get downtown. Besides, the other bridge may be closed by then anyway.

The Bridge is open!

May 1st, 2007

Sure, as of this morning the railings and light weren’t on, and they were still working on it, but you can actually drive your car across the Oakwood Avenue bridge! People have been riding bikes and walking across the bridge for a week now (unofficially) but those fancy motorcars are now (officially) allowed.

So with that in mind, we hereby declare the bridge open!
