Old Bridge, New Bridge

The Oakwood Avenue Bridge, which was built in 1928 and is the 8th oldest bridge in Waukesha County, will soon be gone…

Starting in September 2006, they’re taking it out, but don’t worry, we should have a new bridge by the end of October 2006.

Of course people who walk, run, bike, and drive over the bridge will have to find alternate routes for about two months, but in the end it sounds like the replacement will be worth it. (I hope they finish it before it’s time to go Trick ‘r Treating!)

The new bridge will have decorative metal hand railings atop the solid concrete railing, which will have a simulated cut limestone pattern and be stained. The lighting on the bridge will match that of the new lighting choosen for the downtown revitalization. The bridge will also be 2 feet wider, and have 6 foot wide sidewalks.
