Standards in Bypass Design

We’ve mentioned the Highway 16/67 bypass before (just see the posts tagged with transportation) well now it appears that the state has decided that using a uniform bypass design would be a good idea.

“When the traveling public goes from one community to another, they expect these bypasses to be fairly similar,” said Kevin Chesnik, administrator of the state Department of Transportation’s Division of Transportation System Development. “Now, all bypasses that go in during the next 20 years will have a consistent treatment.”

Ultimately, it seems to be an extension of existing practices in transportation design. If the end result is safer roads, and less fatalities, I think we’re all in favor of a uniform bypass design.
